Learning Companion: Halloween Fun Across Stages!
Last Thursday 29th October, our school was filled with Halloween excitement as students from 1st & 2nd Upper Secondary Education joined pupils from 1st to 4th grade of Primary Education for a very special Learning Companion experience!
Learning Companion is a mentoring project that brings students from different educational stages together to learn about a specific topic through shared activities, collaboration and, above all, lots of fun. This time, Halloween was the perfect excuse to bring everyone together and practise English in a creative and engaging way.
Working in small groups, Upper Secondary Education students prepared and organised a variety of Halloween-themed activities for the younger pupils. They enjoyed spooky stories, escape rooms, miming games, Draw a Monster challenges, dancing, singing, musical chairs and many other surprises. There was something for everyone!
But the experience was not just about the older students teaching the younger ones. The pupils from Primary Education also had their chance to become the teachers! They prepared activities for their Upper Secondary Education companions, sharing their creativity, ideas, and Halloween skills. It was a wonderful exchange in which everyone had something to teach and something to learn.
One of the Upper Secondary Education students shared her group’s experience:
"Last Thursday, we, the second-year of Upper Secondary Education students, spent the morning with a group of first-grade pupils doing Halloween activities, and we had an amazing time! The kids were excited and wanted to take part in everything. We played lots of games with them, and they learned many new English words and some of the things people do at Halloween.
Then it was their turn to teach us. They showed us how to make scary Halloween masks, and we loved it. We had so much fun together, and we would love to do it again!"
The activities were a great success and received very positive feedback. One of the most rewarding aspects of this experience was seeing how both older and younger students used English as their main language of communication throughout the sessions. They were speaking, listening, learning new vocabulary, and putting their language skills into practice without even realising it!
Moreover, the activities were designed and organised by the students themselves, encouraging creativity, teamwork, responsibility, and initiative.
Learning English has never been so much fun! Through stories, games, challenges and shared experiences, students had the opportunity to learn from one another in a natural and meaningful way.
It was much more than a Halloween celebration: it was an opportunity to build connections between different stages of our school, share knowledge and create unforgettable memories.
A big thank you to all the students and teachers who took part and made this experience so special. We are already looking forward to the next Learning Companion adventure!
